It is my privilege to serve as CAI California
North Chapter’s President for 2008. I would like to thank my Board
of Directors and Past President, Sheila Adams, for this opportunity to serve
our Chapter and its members. For those of you who do not know me, I have
been in the HOA industry as a manager and as a vendor since 1994 and have seen
the industry grow and mature in that time.
The CAI-California North Chapter serves a large and diverse territory and
over the last decade the area has experienced tremendous growth. Most neighborhoods
have grown and changed, in some cases, dramatically. With growth and change
come new and unknown challenges that affect our industry from top to bottom. But
with all challenges come opportunities.
The Chapter will be very busy this year. Our goal is to increase the Chapter’s
membership base and provide more education and motivation to our members. This
year we have planned to participate in the CAI-National program Adopt-a-Library. We
will identify two libraries in the greater Sacramento metropolitan area and we
will donate CAI publications and resources valued at more than $1,500. The
ultimate goal is have 10 libraries in our chapter with these materials to help
the community understand CAI and Associations.
Another new program for 2008 is our Education Scholarship for the Professional
Management Development Program. This program provides the most comprehensive,
expert education courses for community managers seeking to increase their skills,
knowledge, and job opportunities. These classes can be pricey and we hope
by providing scholarships that our chapter will benefit from our members knowledge
and experience. More information on the scholarships will be submitted
to the membership as it is formalized.
We host social events throughout the year such as the CLAC/CA Day Monte Carlo
Night, our 10th Annual Golf Tournament and the end of the year Awards Gala. There
will be five lunch programs during the year that will cover topics such as “Passing
Special Assessments”, “Security & Your Community” and our
2nd Annual Heroes’ Luncheon on July 17, 2008. The Heroes’ Luncheon
was an uplifting event and if you missed the first one, I implore you to attend
this one.
Our committee volunteers work tirelessly year after year. We’re lucky
to have these awesome, dedicated individuals and we are beginning to see some
new volunteers step up. Anybody can volunteer and everybody is welcome
to join! Please remember that the benefit of your membership is relative
to your involvement. New volunteers bring new energy and ideas. So don’t
be a spectator - get involved! Please contact our Executive Director, Marti
Wallace, at 916.944.0747 or feel free to talk to any of the Board members at
one of our events about volunteering.
Again, thank you very much for the opportunity to serve our Chapter. Our
Chapter depends on each of you for your contributions, commitment and the dedication
you consistently demonstrate. I am honored and privileged to work with such a
special group of people. With your continued support, we look forward to
making 2008 a great year!
Sincerely,
Eric Nelson
